Kerrang



In this magazine Direct address is used as all the pictures seem to be looking directly at you. This makes it stand out and makes you feel connected to the magazine so you buy it.
Flash- to show importance of the text inside the shape and draw the reader’s attention towards it.



Kicker- story to stand out as in different font and it also uses another popular thing to relate to its audience by using a film.

Masthead- same as every other issue. In capital letters to stand out and reflects loud music giving an idea of the genre. The exclamation mark gives a sense of excitement for the audience. The cracks in the wording makes it seem edgy and shows a rock genre vibe.

Pugs- bar code in the bottom corner on its side to fill up as much of the page as possible showing it to be squeezed in to show it will be worth the price as there’s so much cool things inside. Inside is also the issue number. As well as price and dateline.

Screamer- brief bit of text with a question to grab reader’s attention

Has a big picture showing it is the main article which is why it is the first page. It says who the band are and you can even see them looking at their own work on the computer. In majority of the pictures you can see instruments which helps show it is a music magazine.

Flash to say what this is and has a slogan inside.

Subheadings to make it easy to navigate through the magazine as well as different colour used for page numbers so it stands out. Big stories have images to accompany it. Majority of stories have a mini description to go along with it. You can also see a gutter between columns.

Editor’s note with a picture of him- This is used to create a direct personal connection the magazine. This puts a face to the name and makes it feel like the audience is connected to the editor.


The title of this page is very big in comparison to the text. It stands out and the key word is yellow to make it stand out so the audience see that word and know they are in the section which they show interest in as they know where to see their favourite artists or bands on tour. The majority of dark colours used in this magazine reflects it’s a rock magazine as it is dark.

You can see Drop Caps have been used in this double page spread which is used to start a new paragraph and really stand out which is also used by it being a different colour. You can also see pull quotes have been put on this page within a yellow danger like box and large white text to make it stand out.

A large picture has been put across this double page spread of Avenged Sevenfold in front of their tour bus which relates to what this article is about. It also has smaller pictures which are used to show extra details. If you look on the very right of the page you can see a yellow rectangle with text in it. This has been displayed like this to draw the reader’s attention to it and also to show it is something separate to the main article.
