Questionnaire
1. Are you male or female?
SurveyMonkey Certified
Metal Hammer
Masthead at the
top is bright red. Pull quotes are all over the front page all following black
white and red colour scheme. The
font itself appears to be drawn words making it stand out from other magazines.
You can see direct address being
used on the magazine with the man looking directly at you. As he looks angry
and the colours around him you can tell it is a rock/ metal magazine. The only writing over him is relevant to the
cover photo this is the main cover line.
A screamer accompanies the main cover line. Skyline is also used above the masthead.
You can see the bar
code which also has the price
and dateline on it. With a flash telling you that you get free
posters and a CD inside. With all the little drawings in the background it
stands out and you can see from the drawings its metal music especially by
skulls and satanic pentagram being drawn.
The colour scheme
yet again follows black white and red colours to create a professional image
with easy to read text. These colours are usually associated with rock and or
metal bands. The majority of the pictures shown here are using direct address yet again to make the audience
feel connected to the magazine.
Pictures to show the audience who these articles are on and
roughly what it is about. The fact that the first picture shown is the biggest
picture and he was on the front cover shows this is their biggest article of
this issue.
This is the feature
article which has a very large feature
article photograph taking up a whole page with the Body copy on the other half of the magazine. This is a simple layout with larger bold text
in the centre to draw the reader’s attention.
Kerrang
In this magazine Direct
address is used as all the pictures seem to be looking directly at you.
This makes it stand out and makes you feel connected to the magazine so you buy
it.
Flash- to show
importance of the text inside the shape and draw the reader’s attention towards
it.
Kicker- story to
stand out as in different font and it also uses another popular thing to relate
to its audience by using a film.
Masthead- same as
every other issue. In capital letters to stand out and reflects loud music
giving an idea of the genre. The exclamation mark gives a sense of excitement
for the audience. The cracks in the wording makes it seem edgy and shows a rock
genre vibe.
Pugs- bar code in the bottom corner on its
side to fill up as much of the page as possible showing it to be squeezed in to
show it will be worth the price as there’s so much cool things inside. Inside
is also the issue number. As well as
price and dateline.
Screamer- brief
bit of text with a question to grab reader’s attention
Secondary lead-due
to its positioning
Has a big picture showing it is the main article which is
why it is the first page. It says who the band are and you can even see them
looking at their own work on the computer. In majority of the pictures you can
see instruments which helps show it is a music magazine.
Flash to say what
this is and has a slogan inside.
Subheadings to
make it easy to navigate through the magazine as well as different colour used
for page numbers so it stands out. Big stories have images to accompany it.
Majority of stories have a mini description to go along with it. You can also
see a gutter between columns.
Editor’s note with
a picture of him- This is used to create a direct personal connection the
magazine. This puts a face to the name and makes it feel like the audience is
connected to the editor.
The title of this
page is very big in comparison to the text. It stands out and the key word is
yellow to make it stand out so the audience see that word and know they are in
the section which they show interest in as they know where to see their
favourite artists or bands on tour. The majority of dark colours used in this
magazine reflects it’s a rock magazine as it is dark.
You can see Drop Caps
have been used in this double page spread which is used to start a new
paragraph and really stand out which is also used by it being a different
colour. You can also see pull quotes
have been put on this page within a yellow danger like box and large white text
to make it stand out.
A large picture has been put across this double page spread
of Avenged Sevenfold in front of their tour bus which relates to what this
article is about. It also has smaller pictures which are used to show extra
details. If you look on the very right of the page you can see a yellow
rectangle with text in it. This has been displayed like this to draw the
reader’s attention to it and also to show it is something separate to the main
article.

Questionnaire analysis
Q1) As you can see 30 males and 70 females filled out my questionnaire. This shows that females are interested in rock and metal.
Q2) According to my results the majority of people who filled out this questionnaire are aged between 16 and 20 with people over 30 as the second runner up showing I have a large age range meaning I will have to include new and some older rock bands.
Q3) It shows that majority of people read Kerrang magazine so I will look at Kerrang when creating my magazine so I can look at what articles and layouts they use to see what is used so I have an idea of how to present my magazine.
Q4) People buy magazines in the supermarket from the results and market research this is where I will be selling my magazine however as we live in a technological era I will also make purchases available online.
Q5)According to the results most people would be willing to pay £2.50 for the magazine which will be the price I am selling it at in Supermarkets and Online.
Q6) Looking at the results the two most popular genres of music are Pop Rock and Punk Rock so I will be looking at artists with these genres to use as my main articles but I will include other genres of rock in the magazine.
Q7) The preferred name vote is Rockin' Revolution which won by 1 vote. This is the name of my magazine.
Q8) The top three colours voted to work best are Black, White and Red. These colours will be my colour scheme which also reflects the genre of my magazine.
Q9) Posters were voted to be included in the magazine rather than CD's or competitions. This means in every issue will be new posters of a range of artists to keep the audiences interest and to give them what they want.
Q10) People listen to their music Online and Phone equally which is why in my magazine I will be featuring a website and phone app for people to be able to download free music included in the magazine as well as get the newest featured articles as well as special offers when they create an account. This is to expand the audience and the way people can view the magazine as if they are away they can buy the magazine online from their account.
